Words of Wisdom..

When we seek to discover
the best in others,
we somehow bring out the best
in ourselves.

Time..

Every morning you are handed 24 golden hours. They are one of the few things in this world that you get free of charge. If you had all the money in the world, you couldn't buy an extra hour. What will you do with this priceless treasure? Remember, you must use it, as it is given only once. Once wasted you cannot get it back.

Feb 20th 2010

Our little angel is 7 months old today! Seven whole months! I can hardly believe it!!

The past 7 months have been filled with lots of firsts - first smiles, first words, first teeth, first foods, and now that she is learning to crawl it won't be long before we add "first steps" to that list. I wouldn't have traded a single second and I feel blessed to have her living here with us! It just amazes me how quickly time flies ....before we know it she will be celebrating her 1st birthday!

Something else that amazes me though is this, knowing that for the past 7 months neither my grand daughter's father (or his family) have bothered to see how she is doing. Not one word from either of them! The last time they saw her she was hooked up to IV and had a whole list of medical concerns. Yet, neither of them have been concerned enough to follow up.

I guess I just don't understand a person knowing that they have a daughter/grand daughter in the world but not wanting anything to do with her. It's so sad! So heartless! Seven months of her life that they can never get back - all those memories they will never know.

I realize it is their loss, but I can't help but feel sorry for my grand daughter...because no matter how you slice it, the day will come when she'll have questions about them. "Where's my Daddy?" "Didn't he love me?"

Oh I know that one day, please God, some wonderful young man will come along to love my daughter and grand daughter far more than that creep ever could. Far more than him or his family are capable of.

My grand daughter will have a "Dad" to cheer at her soccer games, bring flowers to her concerts, dance with her at Grad, and to walk her down the aisle. She deserves to be loved like that! They both deserve to be loved like that! And I have faith that they will!

But yet, when those sparkling blue eyes look into mine, and she smiles so innocently at me, sometimes it saddens me just a little. It saddens me to know that her precious little heart has already been scarred and there wasn't a darn thing we could do to stop it.

A favorite love poem..

Sonnet XVII
I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.
I love you as the plant that never blooms,
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.
I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:
where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that when you close your eyes I fall asleep

~Pablo Neruda~

That's my girl!! Let the Mamma Brag begin...

My oldest daughter Amanda is a broadcast journalist and she works at her local radio station. Along with her title as news director, Amanda is also responsible for co-hosting the morning show and also hosting a daily half hour news interview show covering the biggest stories of the day along with interviewing the biggest news makers. In her free time she volunteers for organizations such as big brothers/big sisters, Relay for Life, Run for the Cure, and is spokesperson for Girls Inc(helping troubled teens).
In March, Amanda was nominated by the people of her community for The Gold Star Award. The Gold Star is an award for being the best media personality. And as you can see from the photo - she won!!!
Last night she informed me that she has been selected as Harvard Broadcasting’s nominee for the “Steve Young Broadcaster of the Year Award” at this year’s Canadian Music Week. This award is for outstanding “up and coming” Canadian broadcasters under the age of 30. Amanda was selected from a group of talented individuals within Harvard and if selected she’ll receive an all expense paid trip to Country Music Week in Toronto to accept the award.
I can't even tell you how proud I am - 25 years old and she has already accomplished so much! She deserves every moment of this success, and I couldn't be happier for her.
That's my girl!!

Just CHEW it!!

After lunch hubby laid on the couch while I cleaned up. Paco, our chihuahua, jumped up (with his chewy bone) and laid behind him.

Paco laid there, chewing away on his bone, until it was time for hubby and I to leave for the grocery store.

We had lost track of time and everything was closing in 30 minutes, so we were a little rushed.

We jumped into the car and raced to the store.

As soon as we parked I got out and dashed for the store, while hubby stopped to get a cart.

Hubby came inside and met me in the aisle.

As we were shopping a couple of people passed us and made a little snicker. We just looked at each other and thought..."Hmmm that's kind of strange"...but we just kept on shopping.

In the produce aisle it happened again.

A couple of young kids passed us, then laughed and whispered to each other.

By now we are thinking "What the heck?" We kinda gave each other the once over, but we both looked fine. No hair sticking up...no mess on our face. So, we chalked it up to being paranoid and continued shopping.

While we were picking up milk and eggs a friend of ours came over and asked hubby if he felt a draft?

We looked at each other.... and he immediately asked her why?

She said, "cuz there's a huge hole in the ass of your pants!"

He reached behind and sure enough.

It seems that while Paco was laying behind hubby, he was chewing a little more than just his bone. He had chewed a hole right through the ass of hubby's pants.

While hubby slithered off to the car, my friend and I stood there, trying desperately to control our laughter.
